Destination Overview

Discover Aberdare

Aberdare National Park protects a high-altitude landscape of dense forest, bamboo, moorland, deep ravines and dramatic waterfalls. Its cooler climate and thick vegetation create a safari experience very different from Kenya’s open savannah parks. Elephant, buffalo, giant forest hog and various antelope inhabit the forests, while historic tree lodges overlook floodlit waterholes that attract wildlife after dark.

Every Jossy Travel safari can be privately tailored around your dates, preferred accommodation style and special interests.

When to Travel

Best Time to Visit Aberdare

Drier months are best for exploring the park by road and reaching waterfalls and viewpoints. The wetter season is atmospheric and lush, but travellers should be prepared for cool, wet weather.

High / Dry Season

Classic Game-Viewing Months

January to February and June to September are generally drier and offer better access to highland roads and viewpoints.

Low / Green Season

Quieter, Greener & Atmospheric

March to May and October to December can be wetter, with mist, rain and more difficult conditions on some mountain tracks. The forest is exceptionally green during these months.

Seasonal weather patterns vary from year to year. Our team will advise on current conditions when planning your safari.
