Destination Overview

Discover Tsavo West

Tsavo West has a more varied and dramatic landscape than its eastern neighbour, combining volcanic lava flows, wooded hills, open plains, springs and rocky ridges. The park is especially well known for Mzima Springs, the Shetani Lava Flow and excellent viewpoints. Dense vegetation can make wildlife viewing more rewarding and suspenseful, while the diversity of habitats supports elephant, buffalo, leopard, antelope and abundant birdlife.

When to Travel

Best Time to Visit Tsavo West

The dry seasons are most reliable for general game viewing. Photographers and birders may prefer the wetter green months for richer vegetation, dramatic light and fewer safari vehicles.

High / Dry Season

Classic Game-Viewing Months

June to October and January to March are normally drier, giving easier access and encouraging wildlife to concentrate around water points and springs.

Low / Green Season

Quieter, Greener & Atmospheric

April to May is the principal rainy period and visitor numbers are lower. November can also be wet. Vegetation becomes lush and birding can be outstanding, though wildlife may be less visible in thicker bush.

Seasonal weather patterns vary from year to year. Our team will advise on current conditions when planning your safari.
