Classic Game-Viewing Months
July to October and late December to March are popular because conditions are generally drier and animals often concentrate around permanent water. Clear early mornings can also provide exceptional Kilimanjaro views.
Iconic elephant country beneath the snow-capped summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Amboseli is one of Kenya’s most recognizable safari destinations, famous for its large elephant families and spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro across open plains and seasonal wetlands. Underground water from Kilimanjaro feeds permanent swamps that support wildlife even during dry periods, creating excellent opportunities for close elephant encounters, birdlife and classic East African landscape photography.

Wildlife sightings are always natural and never guaranteed, but these species are strongly associated with Amboseli and its surrounding ecosystem.
Amboseli works well throughout the year. Dry-season months are excellent for concentrated wildlife viewing, while the green season brings dramatic skies, vibrant landscapes, migratory birds and fewer safari vehicles.

April and May are usually the wettest months, with fewer visitors and greener scenery. November can bring short rains. Wildlife remains strong because Amboseli’s wetlands are permanent, although some tracks may become muddy.
