Classic Game-Viewing Months
June to October and January to March are the main dry periods, when wildlife concentrates strongly along the Ewaso Nyiro River and viewing can be excellent.
A dramatic northern wilderness with unique dry-country wildlife and Samburu culture.
Samburu National Reserve lies in Kenya’s arid north and offers a distinctive safari experience centred on the Ewaso Nyiro River. The surrounding dry bushland supports species rarely encountered in the southern parks, including Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich and gerenuk. The river attracts elephants and predators, while the rugged landscape and local Samburu culture give the region a powerful sense of place.

Wildlife sightings are always natural and never guaranteed, but these species are strongly associated with Samburu and its surrounding ecosystem.
The dry months are particularly rewarding because riverine wildlife becomes concentrated. Green-season travel is quieter and often excellent for birding, colour and landscape photography.
