Destination Overview

Discover Samburu

Samburu National Reserve lies in Kenya’s arid north and offers a distinctive safari experience centred on the Ewaso Nyiro River. The surrounding dry bushland supports species rarely encountered in the southern parks, including Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich and gerenuk. The river attracts elephants and predators, while the rugged landscape and local Samburu culture give the region a powerful sense of place.

Every Jossy Travel safari can be privately tailored around your dates, preferred accommodation style and special interests.

When to Travel

Best Time to Visit Samburu

The dry months are particularly rewarding because riverine wildlife becomes concentrated. Green-season travel is quieter and often excellent for birding, colour and landscape photography.

High / Dry Season

Classic Game-Viewing Months

June to October and January to March are the main dry periods, when wildlife concentrates strongly along the Ewaso Nyiro River and viewing can be excellent.

Low / Green Season

Quieter, Greener & Atmospheric

April to May and parts of November are usually wetter. Visitor numbers fall, vegetation freshens and bird activity can improve, although some roads may be slower after rain.

Seasonal weather patterns vary from year to year. Our team will advise on current conditions when planning your safari.
