Destination Overview

Discover Maasai Mara

The Maasai Mara is Kenya’s most celebrated safari landscape, where rolling grasslands, riverine forests and the Mara River support an extraordinary concentration of wildlife. It forms the northern extension of the Serengeti ecosystem and is especially famous for excellent year-round predator viewing, large herds of plains game and the seasonal Great Migration. Private conservancies surrounding the reserve add quieter game viewing, night drives and other exclusive experiences.

Every Jossy Travel safari can be privately tailored around your dates, preferred accommodation style and special interests.

When to Travel

Best Time to Visit Maasai Mara

Wildlife viewing is excellent throughout the year. Choose July–October for migration drama, January–March for drier weather and strong cat sightings, or the green season for lush scenery, birding and a quieter safari atmosphere.

High / Dry Season

Classic Game-Viewing Months

July to October is the classic high season, when the Great Migration may be in the Mara and wildlife activity around the Mara River attracts visitors from around the world. January to February can also be busy because of dry conditions and excellent predator sightings.

Low / Green Season

Quieter, Greener & Atmospheric

April to May is generally quieter and wetter, with greener landscapes, fewer vehicles and attractive value at many camps. Short rains may also occur in November. Wildlife remains present year-round, although road conditions can be slower after heavy rain.

Seasonal weather patterns vary from year to year. Our team will advise on current conditions when planning your safari.
